How It’s Made
The best cheese starts with the best milk, and Farmer Joe’s takes that seriously! (You can find out more about our commitment to ethical dairy here) Our cheese crafters break apart 21lb packages of cheese curds before boiling them in salty, hot water. They then mix them by hand to skillfully spin and manipulate the curds before shaping them into the beautiful, shiny balls of joy we know as “mozzarella.” To ensure that they keep their rounded shape, the mozzarella balls are put into a nice ice bath; the cold water also helps ensure that the cheese isn’t overly salty by the time it reaches your plate!

One of the things that make Farmer Joe’s more than your average grocery store is the chance to watch the process of your cheese and different kinds of pasta being made daily! We’ve even been experimenting with adding specialty flavor additions to our cheese, such as basil and parmesan.
